Last Stop beginner guide
Lobby, modes, and the first memorize pass before you open a single door.
Last Stop throws you into a fluorescent subway car and asks you to notice when reality slips. You do not fight, craft, or party up. Servers are single-player. Your only job is to remember Cart 20 well enough to judge every later cart. This beginner guide is the onboarding pass; when you are ready to chain twenty correct calls, switch to the Cart 0 walkthrough.
What the game is
Nothing2Serious published Last Stop as an Exit 8-style puzzle. You start at Cart 20 and want Cart 0. Each connecting door is a test:
- Match: walk forward. The cart number should drop.
- Mismatch: turn around immediately. Going forward on a wrong cart is an Anomaly Missed and a full reset.
There is no health bar. The fail state is wasting a ten-minute memory run because you ignored a McDonald’s shirt or a whispering passenger. Read how to spot anomalies once this page’s memorize list feels automatic.
Lobby and modes
Before the aisle, pick a mode:
- Normal: the intended campaign. Twenty clean carts. The store’s anomaly scanner is allowed here only.
- Infinite: no Cart 0 pressure. Use it to fill the 50 Anomalies Spotted badge and to practice hard anomalies.
- Speedrun: five minutes, same twenty carts. Fail the clock and you roll a bad ending. Details sit on the speedrun and endings pages.
Under 17? The description links an unrestricted place with the same loop and a different rating. It is not a second campaign with extra codes. See official links.
The Cart 20 memorize list
Stand still. Do a slow 360. Speak the list out loud if you have to.
- Floor arrows: color and direction (inward versus outward).
- Stops remaining sign: text, color, and the back of the sign.
- Next Cart door: label, outline color, whether it glows white.
- Ceiling lights: separate tubes versus one long strip, brightness, color.
- Windows: cracked or clear, outside view (tunnel, backrooms, laughing crowd).
- Electrical box: closed, open, extra symbol.
- Security camera: idle versus recording red dot.
- Soda / Bloxy Cola box: count, color, heart or creature inside.
- Posters: missing person, makeup ad, Have a safe ride, Better Call Saul, birthday note, sad note.
- NPCs: sleeping passenger and bag color, phone guy and shirt, typing girl and hair, clown, anyone extra on the left as you enter.
That roster is expanded on cart NPCs. Anything that chases, glitches, or replaces the aisle is on entities.
First-run rules of thumb
- Never skip the audio. An announcer, a whisper, a scream, or a metal pound can be the only tell.
- If you are unsure, turn back. A false positive costs one cart. A false negative costs the run.
- Do not open scripts on your first clear. Learn the lighting first; fullbright hides some darkness-based anomalies.
- Ignore codes. There are none, and hunting them delays your first badge.
- After any miss, reset your memory. Cart 20 is the baseline, not the last cart you liked.
Controls in one minute
Walk with WASD or the left stick. Mouse or right stick looks. On mobile, turn with a full swipe so you can see the back of the Stops Remaining sign — several anomalies hide there. Sprint is optional and dangerous in Speedrun because you skip posters. Full bind table: controls.
What success looks like on day one
You do not need You Won on the first night. A good first session is:
- One complete memorize of Cart 20
- The 1 Anomaly Spotted badge
- Survival to the low teens without guessing
- A note of which family of tells you keep missing (posters, NPCs, audio)
Then open the tier list and mark those families. Use the checklist as a second monitor. When you can explain why you turned around, you are ready for the walkthrough.
Common beginner mistakes
- Memorizing only the clown and ignoring the soda box.
- Trusting the cart number. It can flicker or lie.
- Walking forward because “it is probably fine.” Last Stop punishes probably.
- Using the scanner in Speedrun (it is Normal-only).
- Watching a video with the sound off, then missing choir and whisper tells in your own run.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Cart 20, Cart 0, and the speedrun clock.
How long is a Last Stop run?
A careful Normal clear is often ten to twenty minutes. The speedrun is a five-minute variant of the same twenty carts.
Can I play with friends?
No. The experience is single-player. Share tips out of game, not in the same cart.
Should I buy the anomaly scanner as a beginner?
Optional. Learn the spotting method first. The scanner is a Normal-mode crutch, not a teacher.
What happens when I miss?
You get the Anomaly Missed badge on the first fail and return to the start. Details on badges.
